My Students

Us teachers go through incredible amounts of copy paper every day, especially in a school where resources such as textbooks and novels are limited. We need this paper to last us until June.

We are a small Title I school in East New York, Brooklyn.

Our students are always short on supplies, as are we. Our students are energetic and excited to learn, and very cognizant of when their teachers struggle to make ends meet. They can tell when we are struggling, and do their best to match our struggle.

My Project

Our students will use these materials for all of their classwork from now until the end of the school year. Because we don't have poetry anthologies at school, I will be printing a small book of poetry, along with learning activities, that will form the bulk of their studies from now until June.

This project will expose my students to a range of literature from which they have previously been restricted.

Many kids in this community never get a chance to interact with literature of any kind, and this will provide them with something they will be able to hold on to for the rest of their lives.
