This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We want to show that even though we may be different, we can be STARS too!!!!

Our school is a Title 1 school in IL and the students are from lower-income families.

These students are low functioning special education students (moderately to profoundly disabled) who are in an adaptive skills program. They love to have their picture taken to showcase the great things they are doing in school and at school sponsored activities. Our students are very active and want to show off ALL of their accomplishments!

My Project

By having a digital camera, printer to print the pictures on, and the supplies to print them would allow the students to be more independent throughout the school day! About 1/2 of our students require picture schedules for their daily routines and/or pictures to communicate their needs and wants(i.e. go to the bathroom, get a drink of water, lunch time, reading, math, etc., because of the severity of their disabilities, especially our students with Autism and ones that are non-verbal. Most of the students require visuals to assist them when going out into the community to purchase items for cooking and work on appropriate behavioral skills. They also are learning domestic (cooking) and work-related skills to help them become more independent individuals. By using "life-like" pictures, they would be able to understand their tasks further. They would also be able to showcase their accomplishments like competing in Special Olympics activities throughout the year and going to dances.

Because our school has lower income students and families, we are not always able to get the technology we would like to improve our students learning, school years, and life.

We want so much for our students and are not always financially able to do so. This would be such a GREAT gift to us, and we would be able to use it to improve the lives and learning of our students!
