My Students

We are a group of fourth-grade students who have a love of reading. We love reading graphic novels, nonfiction books, and realistic fiction books just to name a few. We read at a variety of levels and our class library has to satisfy the needs of 90 learners. In order to grow as readers, we need more books. After all, reading volume is directly related to reading level growth. Reading books that are engaging and interesting only fuels our desire to read more! However, our classroom library is filled with old, worn books that do not represent us. Please help us create a dream library that will help us grow as life long readers.

My Project

Bangladesh, Mexico, Uzbekistan, China… just to name a few. I am blessed to have 90 students that reflect the amazing diversity of the United States. The problem is my library fails to represent this diversity. My students love to read and through this website, they have a library with books they have longed for. However, Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, Greg Hefley, Judy Mooney, and Nikki Maxwell do not look like the kids that sit in my class. This shows up in their writing, many times the characters they create look like the characters in their books, which sadly do not look like them. That is where you come in. This project will allow me to provide my students with books that have characters that look like them and tell the stories that they live. Everyone has that book that sticks with them and makes them love reading. Help my students find this book faster by supporting this project.
