My Students

My students have a lot of sensory needs. They are kindergarten students with autism, it is their first time in schools and they are still learning the routine of being in school.

My students are kindergarten students with autism.

We are in a specialized district where students are in inclusion classrooms. I teach the same 6 students everyday for every period and I teach all subjects. It is their first time in school, and they are still getting used to the routine. Because of sensory needs, some behavior issues arise throughout the day and the sensory toys would be of so much help. The special education district is very low on funding so toys are last on their list, but it is so important to the population of students I have.

My Project

I am requesting puzzles and sensory toys for my students, as well as a chart holder for our literacy center. The puzzles are at the level my students are at right now. They are learning how to match because cognitively, they are at the 1-2 year old level. Our literacy center is extremely bare due to budgeting. We do not have leveled books but in order for my students to get the level of reading books, we need to get the behaviors under control and the sensory toys would be so much help.

As an inclusion autism classroom, having sensory toys for my students would be life changing.

These toys can get very expensive and most of my students come from low income family where they are unable to provide sensory toys for their children. At school, because we are trying to get them to catch up to the level of their general education peers, behaviors are interrupting lessons. These donations would help immensely to calm my students down and know they will be reinforced for good behavior.
