My Students

The students and teachers at our school are restarting a school-wide Bullying Prevention Program. They need an experience to get them enthused about the program and raise awareness of the nationwide problem of bullying.

My students range from the 6th grade to the 12th grade.

The middle school students (6th grade through 8th grade) are enrolled in the school's Leadership Academy. The high school students are enrolled in a JROTC program. They are highly motivated students, and even at their young ages, many display excellent leadership qualities.

My Project

"Bully" is an emotionally hard-hitting documentary that was released in 2012. The goal of the documentary was to raise awareness of the problem of bullying by profiling several students and parents who have suffered as a result of this all-too-common practice in schools. While we currently do have a great, school-wide bully prevention program in place, many students firmly believe this issue is not a problem for our school. This belief comes mainly from pride in our school, but the students should still be aware of bully as a serious issue - what it is, where it happens, and most importantly, how to stop it.

The "Bully" documentary caught the attention of many in the United States this year, including the mass media, as an important educational tool regarding the bullying "epidemic" in our nation's schools.

Our goal is to ensure not only that bullying is not tolerated here, but that it is not even a part of our culture at the school. Attending the screening of the "Bully" documentary will help our students see the devastating effects of bullying and help them resolve to end it.
