This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"It takes a village to raise can child" African Proverb. Hello to all. As a school counselor in Bronx NY; my student are face with economical challenges both in school and out of school. I would like to start a food and clothing pantry for my students and families member at the school.

The purpose of the school pantry program is to help alleviate child hunger thought the provision of food to children and their families at school.

The food pantry will be located on the first floor so families can have accessibility to the panty. There will be a schedule for families to assess the food and clothing pantry.

The purpose of the food pantry is to:

1. provide nutritious,healthy food to children at risk of going to bed hungry.

2. Discreetly distribute food to students and families in a safe, caring environment.

My Project

Our school pantry program will allow food insecure children and their families to access food assistance directly from their school. The goal is to provide and mininize hunger and malnutrition for low income families.

Studies link food deprivation to poor test scores and behavioral issues.

Students who suffer inadequate nutrition early in their lives has a long term effect on poor health and lack of job readiness. This project will give my students the nutrition support to help maintain a healthy weight. My families will learn how to eat healthy which they will have less of a risk for developing chronic health problems such as diabetes or cardiovascular disease. Maintain a healthy body weight will promote a child's positive self esteem this will help with absenteeism in my school.

The materials will be used to provide my students and their families with an additional resource they can use when they have no other means of providing food to their family.

In addition, to creating a food pantry, I'll teach personal hygiene skills therefore the hygiene care products will be given to the upper graders as a care package. The hygiene care products will promote self-esteem.

The can vegetables will help students understand that a healthy meal creates healthy living. Hopefully, this will transition to what meal they chose as adults for their families. The dole fruit cups will provide my student with a healthy snack and teach them they can choices tasty snacks that are healthy. The items will help student focus and maintain stamina thought out the day. The items I chosen will also help my student maintain a positive attitude though out the day. In addition my students will not have to worry where their next meal is coming from due to the food pantry at the school.
