My Project

Traditionally, scrapbooking has been a familial past time where family comes together to reflect on memories and create a family heirloom or keepsake of photos and ephemera. Our school is a self-contained community for students with disabilities, who need alternative assessments and special accommodations to meet their needs.

We have a successful art photography program and want to share our skills with the broader school community by building our school family scrapbook.

This project focuses on social emotional learning by taking our photos from daily class activities into a new aesthetic. We will set up a photography portrait studio at school wide events and use these photos to create the school family scrapbook.

We create boards and books to showcase and share our work. This project deepens our artist expression by adding elements of collage and bookmaking for our daily projects of photography and creating artwork. It creates a bonding experience for our staff and students, much like making a family scrapbook at home with grandma and mom at the dining room table.

This project aims to improve the mental health and the wellbeing of our students, and bring about an element of community service to our photography program.
