Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Teaching is my life's work, and my high schoolers are my life's reward. My students are amazing because they regularly impress me with their insight, enthusiasm, and honesty.

The students in my room are special and appreciated: The one who fixes my IT issues, the one who translates for the ELL students, the one who volunteers to read--with gusto, the one who knows where all my misplaced objects go, the one who makes clever comments, the one who says little but listens to all, and even the one who leads the mini-rebellions.

Teaching freshmen is so rewarding because you get to witness their growth throughout four years. Students know they have a home-away-from-home at school, and their visits brighten up my day. They are members of various unofficial clubs--The Unofficial Breakfast Club, The Unofficial After School Club, and most recently, an Unofficial Pet Club! I feel so fortunate when they share their victories, fears, and thoughts in our sacred space.

My Project

On this, my tenth year teaching English I and my first year teaching AP English, my goal is to add modern elements into our classroom to enrich students' academic learning and comfortable environment. Having already received more flexible seating options, my current goal is to incorporate technology into the classroom via an Echo device, add creative collaboration tools, and finish remodeling our home.

This modern technological innovation and the other additional touches will help take our high school English classroom to the next level--college.

Just think of Shakespeare's words becoming more accessible, or difficult texts being shared aloud... or poems being brought to life; the possibilities are endless!
