This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach in a Title I public school in NYC. My preschoolers are the youngest in our school community with 700 students. They are full of excitement, and curiosity and cannot wait to explore their new classroom environment.

Our classroom is in need of a color printer.

For many of our students, this is their first time in a structured, school setting and that can be scary! My goal is to make our preschool classroom a very welcoming, comfortable, and safe space to learn and grow.

We start by printing out pictures of the children and their families from the very first days of school. A color printer would allow for a world of possibilities in their use (ex. class books, fine motor picture frames, a family wall). As the year progresses, we print pictures of their play-based day to show all the wonderful learning taking place. We love to capture pictures of their work and what they were thinking at the moment. For example, in the block center, we can print a color picture of the city a student built. She won’t be sad to clean it up because the picture will remind her of how hard she worked and give her the inspiration to create a new structure during the next center time. In the art center, we can print out vivid pictures to go with our learning units. For example, students can look at different pictures of vehicles and choose art tools to create their own version during the transportation unit. We have ten active learning centers that would benefit from color printing.

There are endless possibilities in a world full of color. Please help our youngest learners see that by supporting us in getting a color printer for our classroom.
