This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Imagine hearing a four-year-old say, "Can I take an apple home? We don't have a lot of food in my house."

My students are growing up in an unsafe, extremely economically disadvantaged neighborhood.

As Pre-Kindergartners, this is their first experience in school. My students are learning to love school through our exciting hands-on, experience-based classroom. Unfortunately, my school is lacking tremendously in resources and funding, and we were provided with hardly any materials. Our classroom is truly our home, and my students do their best to take care of it. However, it can get very messy throughout the course of the day with all of the activities that happen in there. We eat breakfast, lunch, and snack in our classroom and food inevitably ends up on the floor and all over the tables. We go out to the yard to play, and accidentally bring back dirt when we come inside. With three schools in our building and only one custodian during school hours, it is truly up to the students and me to make sure our classroom is clean.

My Project

My students need basic cleaning supplies so that we can take care of our classroom and make sure that it is a healthy environment for learning. With disposable cups, my students can make sure that they are drinking water throughout the day to stay hydrated. If my students have access to paper towels, they can take ownership of a minor spill by cleaning it up themselves. With Clorox wipes, baby wipes, and hand sanitizer, my students can make sure that our hands and tables are free of germs.

These basic supplies will help improve our classroom by ensuring that my students have a clean and healthy place to learn every day in school.
