My Students

I teach in a Pre-K classroom that serves students from ages 3 to 5 years old. My students are a group of diverse individuals that come from different cultural backgrounds, with individual physical and academic needs. In our classroom, my students receive services from an Adaptive Physical Education Teacher, an Occupational Therapist, Speech/Language Therapists, and a Physical Therapist to help them with their individual needs so they can be successful now and throughout life. Everyday, we strive to meet their individualized goals and emotional needs. In our classroom, our students enjoy learning in large/small groups using hands on material. Many of our students are English language learners and they live in an area of extreme poverty in Los Angeles where all students qualify for the free-lunch program at our Title I school.

My Project

iPad are highly motivating for my special needs students. When they see an iPad they can’t wait to get their little hands on it. I have seen many of my students navigate iPads with minimal direction and decreasing support. They get so excited to work on an iPad and that they are willing to work through harder concepts on iPad app. I love seeing their will and determination. Right now I have one iPad that I am ever so grateful for that we received a few years ago. Unfortunately, technology has changed and many apps requires an updated version. My classroom need two new iPads so they can work in small groups. They will be able to challenge each other and themselves. When I am teaching a concept that is hard for a particular student, having the iPad to supplement instruction is critical. These iPads will be to help kids learn communication systems to express themselves and to help them build vocabulary. Some of my students will never develop oral language and will need to use an iPad to talk for them. Having these iPads in the classroom will give them the instruction that they need to be successful.
