My Students

My students are from a low income community where all children receive free breakfast and lunch. Although this is my first year teaching, I am excited for my first graders to become a community of learners to grow and wisdom and knowledge. As I join this school, a second year turn around school, we are determined to raise our school from the bottom 5% to the top 5%!

My focus is for these students to become leaders in their community.

My Project

With twenty first graders eager in one classroom, it is hard to make sure that everyone has their own space! Imagine twenty sets of engaged eyes coming to sit down on the floor to learn. All of the students want to be comfortable.

However, sitting on the cold tile and too close to peers makes it challenging to pay attention.

This carpet will allow students to be comfortable, have boundaries, and increase engagement!

For example, this carpet will provide a space for morning meeting, a tool we are using at our school to increase student attendance and decrease student tardies.

We cannot help students grow if they are not at school. Providing this exciting community will create a desire for student to be at school on time!
