My Project

My students have lots of opinions. Some of them want less homework, more recess, less in-class writing, and some even want to bring their younger siblings to school.

It's not shocking, therefore, that opinion writing is my students' favorite writing unit.

They have so many strong beliefs. The books I am requesting will serve as mentor texts for my students. "A Pig Parade is a Terrible Idea," however, will be our primary mentor text for this unit. Students will not only write about a topic that matters to them, they will also produce opinion writing with text-based evidence. The books I am requesting are fun, easy-to-read, and will engage my students as they develop their opinion paragraphs and essays.

I am also requesting a student thesaurus so that my students can use more creative language in their speech and writing.
