My Students

My students are the warmest group of ten to eleven year olds with autism. They are mostly nonverbal (meaning they have limited speech), but their thirst for knowledge and teeming curiosity is truly astonishing.

They have the innocence and warmness of a child, with the drive and thirst for knowledge of a professional.

They are ready to take on the world; they just need the tools to do it. With a little bit of help and a pinch of confidence, they can do anything better than you and I.

My Project

I love my students. My seventh grade class of nonverbal students with autism give me life! As you may likely know, children with autism are VERY musically inclined. This year I’ve been having great success teaching one of my students to play piano. Unfortunately, due to COVID and NYC’s lack of budget I have been only able to teach with the one keyboard I personally own. As you can imagine, with social distancing in effect and with a class of nonverbal autistic students, it is nearly impossible to teach music this way. Please help me purchase four keyboards for my class so we can all learn to play piano together. One of the keyboards will even get to go home with an underprivileged student who has had so much success in his learning! Help us access our music!
