it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Imagine learning about music in a classroom without enough instruments. My students need to see the different types of recorders, then have one each to play!
Music class is unique in that it provides a creative, multifaceted learning experience that immerses the senses AND emotions while teaching discipline and coordination.
My students are enthusiastic 12 to 18-year-old musicians who just want hands-on learning at school!
My boys and girls come from single parent and foster homes, homeless shelters, and other low-income and stressful situations. Many of my students have no access to musical instruments of any kind outside of my classroom.
Due to recent budget cuts, we have been unable to obtain any supplies for the music room. Interest and enrollment in my music classes continues to grow, but our school is not able to fund needed supplies such as the instruments that we are requesting in this proposal.
My Project
If we receive the recorders, my students will be able to see, hear and touch the different types of recorders and know that these are REAL instruments and NOT toys. I will play videos of recorder ensembles and even take my most advanced students and create a recorder quartet. We will start with such classic material as "Au Clair De La Lune" and move on to themes from Vivaldi's "Four Seasons". From there we can tackle more modern music such as John Williams' "Hedwig's Theme" from the Harry Potter movies.
Our donation request will make a difference to our students who cannot afford a music education outside of school. It will impact a large growing number of students who request music class each semester.
We host several performances each year but need new recorders in order for new students to join! Playing music provides a creative and stimulating outlet for students who otherwise sit and write all day long.
The recorders are essential tools to help appreciate, learn & explore music.
My music students will be able to develop skills such as dynamic control, following forms, improvisation, coordination, etc. The instruments will create an immersive atmosphere that encourages discipline & appreciation for this art form.
