This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our classroom meeting area is to provide a safe place to discuss relevant issues, allow time to resolve any class conflicts from the week, offer the chance to answer student-generated questions, and provide an opportunity to highlight our class community in a special way. Having a clean and comfortable classroom rug is the most necessary thing in our home room right now. We need a clean rug to be comfortable and ready to learn. Having a comfortable and large rug in our meeting area allows and equitable space for our entire class, where everyone has a safe spot and equal space to learn and express themselves.

The goals for this project is to allow a safe space for us to meet and grow as a classroom community.

It is very important for us to be able to meet in our meeting area as a class, sit in circles and create classroom community, respect and share our ideas. We do not only learn from our teacher but also from one another in our expressions. The goal is to build and have a safe, happy and productive area for students to meet, learn and grow.

My classroom is a Spanish dominant community. I am a dual language English and Spanish classroom space where my students are all from low income families. My students are so special to me and important to show up to school and learn in two languages every day. They are from different countries in central and South America and from low income families, where they do not even have full apartment or homes where they can be comfortable and happy. They have to share their homes with multiple families and in small bedroom areas. This is why building a safe space and welcoming classroom is so important.
