My students come to class daily ready to work and play. Parents work hard to try to give their students everything they can. We are located in a rural section of the foothills of North Carolina. Our school is a Title I funded school with 100% of our students receiving free breakfast and lunch. It is my goal that every child enjoys learning. The best way for me to do this is by including many different types of educational activities to keep the class exciting.
My Project
STEAM is a word on the rise within our community and early exposure is a priority. As a 1st grade teacher, I strive to give my students as many opportunities as possible within my classroom. Students in my classroom need multiple opportunities to interact with blocks and engineering kits to really grasp the concepts of engineering. These materials will allow students to invite parents in for our STEAM fair and work together to achieve a goal.
Students learn better by doing, than by hearing me give directions.
When students are able to work together and find ways to complete projects and work through problems they feel that they are playing an important part in education.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
