My Students

Any idea you have can come true, if you just write it down, it becomes reality. Please help our kids create a place to publish all their ideas. They plan on making books, story quilts and writing portfolios with their new supplies.

I teach Sixth grade English and History to SAS, high achieving students, gifted students and regular students.

My students are incredibly smart and creative, and have been working on improving their writing skills. Our school is very diverse, and we are split into learning academies. The sixth grade has it's own academy, called the IDEA academy. IDEA stands for Intellectual Discovery Enrichment Academy, and we create the bridge into middle school.

My Project

Our school just became a charter so that we would have more money for our school, but we still rely on donations for our classroom supplies. I have incredibly smart children in my class,and it has been our goal this year to increase their writing skills. Every Friday we have Writer's Workshop, and all of the students are in writing groups to read and help each other with their work. All of my classes have expressed an interest in creative publishing projects, and have decided on creating an ABC's of Sixth Grade project for our academy. They will create books, story quilts, posters and brochures for the in-coming sixth grade class. We have requested everything they might need in a publishing/creating factory to make these ABC projects and more! We will use the book binder and laminator to make sure their books last, the art supplies, special papers, pens and projector to help with illustrations,and the sewing supplies and fabric paint to make quilted books and story quilts.

As a member of the Cal State Northridge Writing Project, I have a strong belief in the need for more literacy education.

I have made it my mission to not only improve my student's writing skills, but to give them a love for writing and self expression. I hope that creating a publishing center that includes illustration tools, book bindings and laminating tools to preserve their projects will inspire my students to keep working on their writing.
