Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a social worker in a PreK-5 school, I am committed to integrating and finding the connections between learning and emotions throughout the day. The materials I have requested will create opportunities for me to do just that in my own space. I have added a classroom rug in order for small groups and me to practice working as a team, personal space and overall communication. Children who understand personal space can learn to express discomfort when their space is invaded and to listen to others' cues.

I added sensory toys to assist in anxiety relief, mood management and overall engagement in individual, small group and large instruction and discussions.

Likewise, the snacks will serve as reinforcers for behavior or motivation!

My goals for this project are to create a space for students to unwind while stimulating and enhancing their social-emotional capacities. With this, when stepping out into the rest of the school community, students will be able to simply focus on the academic material at hand!
