Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This is is my very first full year leave replacement. It is my absolute favorite grade! I am excited to FINALLY have my very own classroom (at least for the year) I am blessed to be in a wonderful school district with amazing faculty and staff under wonderful administration. We are an inner-city school district and our classroom is a safe haven for my students. In our class with different abilities, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds, we all share the love of learning. This pandemic has negatively impacted our scholar's and they are struggling. I am reaching out to

My students, in the past, would greet me in the morning with a hug, or a high-five.

Unfortunately, that is no longer allowed. As a teacher and a mom, that is heart-wrenching for me. A hug may be just what my students are in need of and I can't give them that.

My Project

This year is especially challenging for all. It is my job as an educator to ensure that I have the necessary tools to make each one of my scholars successful. As a new teacher, I am looking for ways to engage all of my students regardless of where they are academically. I am looking to stock my classroom with magnetic letters so that each student can have their own set of letters without having to share. Using magnetic letters daily can help children begin to internalize the shape and feel of letters. This internalization builds alphabet fluency, which is a predictor of future reading success.

The carpet squares will allow my students to work/sit on the floor if they choose to.

I have seen how choice can positively affect my students' work and demeanor and hope that the additional options will help us grow even more!
