Our High School's Inaugural Reconnection & Calming Corner

My Project

Calming Corners are a designated space for students to come, relax, and center themselves. Research has shown that over 65% of high school students in grades 9 to 12 will experience anxiety or depression by the time they graduate from high school. Having a space designated for students' overall wellness and positive mental health is paramount to their academic success and engagement in extracurricular activities inclusive of school sports.

Our school is a Title I school, with over 80% of our students qualifying for free lunch and living at or below the poverty line.

With the items in this project, along with furniture that has been donated by teachers, our team of two Psychiatric Social Workers will be able to create and design our very own Calming Corner. Under our supervision, students will be able to take part in our Calming Corner, using the widgets, snacks and soft background music as means of centering themselves, their thoughts, and emotions.
