My Students

My students are just turning five. For many of them, this is their first experience in a school setting. Some of the students have special learning needs, and many are learning English for the first time. The majority of their families live below the poverty line and rely on our free meal plan for their children's breakfast and lunch. We are a very diverse community, with over 20 languages spoken.

Our school is a high poverty, Title I school, with high expectations for all.

Each day, we practice letters, phonics and sight words. We study science and math. We incorporate technology through the use of iPad apps, and we learn beginning engineering concepts through the use of building blocks and other manipulatives. At the end of the school day, the children are so excited to see their parents and tell them all the things they did at school. The parents are very supportive, and they enjoy spending time with their little ones, reading stories and learning new things.

My Project

Help me supply my classroom with a variety of items to be used for arts and crafts activities. Children love art, and it is a great motivator for learning. Pick any topic, and you can tie art into it. We will be using the markers, glitter glue, dot painters and other items to illustrate the things we are learning in other content areas such as science and social studies. The paint cups, paint smocks, and paint mat will help keep our classroom neat and make cleaning up easier. With your help, my students will be enjoying art all year long! Thank you for your support!
