Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The supplies I'm requesting will exclusively be used in our middle school hair braiding club.

Our club is gender-neutral with a goal to foster positive relationships and mentorships amongst staff-students and students-students.

We will host the club after school and before school.

We will read the books and look at documentaries highlighting the beauty and strength of black hair-the moments in which it was neglected and the moments it was praised. We will do so during one of our Social-Emotional Learning periods per week. We will also work on mannequins with different hair textures and learn how to style, care and love ALL textures.

A nail station will be provided as it has been a highly requested unit for the classroom. The students will be 100% in charge of instructing other students and staff methods for caring for nails. As we work to ensure that our SEL curriculums are culturally responsive, we strive to ensure that students strengths are highlighted and they step into roles of leaderships.
