My Students

My students are 21st-century learners who are eager to use all of the technology available to them. I teach 25 curious fourth-grade scientists in a small Title I school that has an amazing and supportive principal.

My students are eager to learn and their brains are sponges that absorb any and all information given to them.

Everything is a potential investigation or experiment to them, so I strive to provide my students with as many learning and project-based opportunities as possible. I constantly enhance the school curriculum and students' intrinsic motivation to learn more by infusing STEM correlations whenever possible.

Because of our small school size, funding levels are not as high as other schools in our area. Grants and projects like this one become an integral part of how I obtain resources to supplement learning experiences. I truly believe that the future lies in our children. They have virtually unlimited potential, and my job is to enable them to reach it.

My Project

My students will be returning to the classroom in August after 14 months of distance learning and remote teaching. We will finally get the chance to revive the garden space outside of our classroom. Not only will my students plant flower seeds that will attract native butterflies and vegetable seeds that they will be able to harvest, we also will beautify the space with rock art, displaying inspirational words and colorful designs in and around our garden space.

This project will give my students an activity that will promote social emotional learning and peace in addition to adding much needed color to our outdoor learning space.

With these rock art kits my students will paint words of encouragement, peaceful words, and productive art pieces that will make people smile. By creating these rocks students are not only helping themselves but helping others feel good. Students will create rock art they can take home and some that will permanently live in our garden space for our school community to enjoy for many years to come.
