My Students

I teach the English portion of our school's Spanish Immersion program. This means I have a total of 44 wonderful 5 to 6 year old learners, with two classes of 22 students. I absolutely love teaching language arts and sharing my passion for reading and writing with them. I am so excited when my students learn to read and love to read and write! My kindergarten students attend a high poverty Pre-K to 5th grade elementary school. I have a very diverse population of students in my classroom. Many of my students come from high poverty homes and are not given opportunities to engage in appropriate social behaviors with same age peers.

My Project

Media is all around us, persuading us to think or feel a certain way about lots of things. My students are also learning about persuasion and are learning how to write and draw to persuade. In kindergarten we learn about persuasive writing through words and pictures. My kindergarten friends will use the variety of colored paper to create posters, advertisements, pamphlets, and other means of visual media. Students will have the opportunity to use their creativity to persuade their peers through media literacy about a certain topic such as foods, animals, or places to visit. My kindergartners will benefit from these materials as they work to improve both their writing and creative art skills. With your help my kindergarten friends will have the materials they need to make this learning possible.
