This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The musical materials I am requesting will help build our music program at the Academy. Currently, we have a set of guitars in our classroom that need a little TLC to make them performance ready. The guitar strings requested will do just that. As for picks, you can never have too many of those! These will be used on our guitars and ukuleles that our middle and high school students use throughout the year. Additionally, this year we will be starting a guitar club before school. It will be open to all students who attend our school, this includes students not enrolled in music classes.

The classroom set of drum pads will help us take our first steps into forming a drum line.

Throughout my tenure at the school we have drummed on many things, from buckets to mouse pads. By adding real feel drum pads to our classroom students will have the opportunity to hone their skills on a surface that similar to that of marching snare drums. These newly found skills will then be applied to outfitting a drum line that we'll perform at school events and build school community.
