Our First Classroom Library of Stories from Around the World

Help me give my students their first ELD classroom library along side The House on Mango Street. My students deserve a furnished classroom library where they can excel on their literacy skills.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

What I love most about my students is their incredible resilience for learning. Many of them are refugees or international students who are navigating the complexities of a new language and culture. Despite the challenges, they approach each day with determination and hope. Their unique stories and diverse backgrounds enrich our classroom, and it's inspiring to see their growth as they continue to embrace their educational journey.

The materials I’m requesting will provide crucial support as they learn English and deepen their love of reading.

A classroom set of The House on Mango Street will give them the opportunity to engage with a powerful, accessible story that touches on themes of identity, belonging, and the immigrant experience—topics that resonate with many of my students. The novel’s simple yet profound language will help them improve their English comprehension while exploring important life lessons.

Additionally, a rug and bean bag chairs will transform our classroom into a warm, welcoming space where students can feel comfortable and confident as they dive into these texts. Having a cozy, flexible seating area will encourage them to engage in group discussions, read quietly, and enjoy the learning process. Creating a comfortable, supportive environment is key to making them feel at home, especially in a space where they are still building their language skills.

My goal for this project is to help my students not only develop stronger English language skills but also find joy in reading. The resources will encourage them to explore new ideas, connect with stories, and, most importantly, feel empowered in their educational journey.

What makes my students so special is their determination and resilience. Despite the challenges they’ve faced, they remain optimistic, and it’s an honor to support them in their growth as learners and individuals.
