Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The 45 students that we work with are students needing literacy services. Our school is a Title I school in the South Bronx. My school has tried to provide us with as much help as possible. We, the AIS team love working with our students. Our 1:1 and small group instruction has benefited our students greatly. We have notice a great growth in the students that we service.

However, we still need assistance in providing materials that can better assist our students.

We have made great strides last year and I truly believe that it's going to be a better year for our students as well as for the beautiful team supporting these students.

My Project

My students use phonics mats to assist them in decoding their words. using dry erase markers and/or elkonin chips. To preserve our word sorts sheets, we would like to laminate them. This will allow us to reuse them without have to make multiple copies, every week. Students also will also need to write daily sentences. These sentences are therefore typed, printed and cut up so that students can reorganize them.

I am positive that our students will move up greatly with the tools that I am requesting.

We work very hard and it takes a lot for the students to be proficient. There is so much more to literacy than just reading a book.....
