My Students

My school is in a low-income, urban area and students are diverse in many ways, including ethnically and economically. Over 85% of our K-5th grade students who attend our school are identified as Title I and many are second language learners. During this time of the pandemic and some distance learning, many of the students have had limited support and access to resources at home and now they are behind academically. The students I support at my school have been identified as at-risk and are performing far below grade level in reading. They want to learn yet they struggle with confidence, they have learning disabilities, and now due to the pandemic, they are further behind than ever before and challenged with adjusting to returning to school in person. The landscape for learning has changed, now every student is expected to use a computer for part of their learning path.

My Project

Our school was fortunate to receive computers for in-class and at-home learning to support all of our second and third-grade students. Students are able to use these devices to access learning applications to support them with their learning. However, teachers received nothing to house these devices. Many teachers have stacked these computers on top of one another on desks and others have resorted to putting them into tubs. This has resulted in the devices getting scratched and damaged. Charging the devices is another challenge. Cords are tangled and damaged as they are plugged and unplugged daily. The housing of these devices has become a nightmare for teachers.

Our school has received funding to purchase computers to support our students in class and at home yet, critical items that teachers need to manage devices in the classrooms were not provided.

The Triangle Desktop File Organizer will allow teachers to have the management that they critically need to protect and organize the iPads.

Each student will have a numbered slot to place their device and quickly find the next time it's needed. The separation of the organizer will allow the iPads to be safely protected and keep them from scratching. Also, the cords will no longer get twisted and torqued as students remove the device. This organizational system for the computers will ultimately save time and money that would otherwise be used for repairs.
