My students are a diverse, precocious group of learners living throughout the Los Angeles area. They are in a magnet program specializing in Modern Media and Communications. These young scholars are open to sharing ideas, collaborating, and growing as individuals.
My Project
As an English teacher, one of my goals is to develop a love of reading within each of my students. Participating in independent reading is an essential component of this mission. Reading provides countless benefits including, but not limited to, improving brain connectivity; reducing stress; and vocabulary expansion. An independent reading program allows students to select high-interest stories that are appropriately challenging to keep them hooked while simultaneously improving their reading skills.
I have collected hundreds of books for my student but do not have the shelves to display them!
The bookshelves being requested will provide an organized home for these texts. The iPad will be used by students to look up the reading level of the books they choose from the classroom library. This will ensure they are reading books within their reading ability.
