This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students are full of energy and excitement for learning. They are immersed in reading each and every day. Students are eager to read independently and also to share their reading during partner reading time.

We are an ethnically, culturally, linguistically, and socio-economically diverse community of learners.

All of our students are engaged readers, writers, mathematicians, and scientists! We are a Pre-kindergarten to fourth grade school in Harlem, serving inner city students who are eager to learn.

My Project

Our students need guided reading books of various levels. We also need leveled books that can be used for shared reading activities. I have requested sets of leveled books such as Well Done, Oscar! and Kitty Cat and the Paint for shared reading. During our Literacy block, students will get a chance to receive small group instruction with books that match their needs and level. This will enable them to practice new reading strategies in books that are appropriate for them.

Guided reading books will greatly impact my students' learning and progress in reading.

The more books we have to match our readers' needs, the best we are able to guide them in using strategies we teach them to become stronger independent readers.
