This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

What a wonderful bunch! These students are energetic, lovable, enthusiastic and inquisitive. The energy my students exert every day in the classroom is worth bottling and spreading it over all the world. They make me want to come every day to work and they fill me with the optimism that, that day (like most) will be a successful one. Their attention to every detail I wear every day and their continued reinforcing of how beautiful I look, is priceless. My students' hugs and letters of love prompt in my room so much desire to be there every day that sometime I don't want the day to end.

This rambunctious second grade class, is fighting the odds.

Our school is situated in the mist of a challenging community. The neighborhood is affected largely by violence, drug abuse and opposition to the empowerment of our children, youth and the family structure. My students exhibit a sense of security and delight in learning. They are prideful in the assurance of knowing that knowledge is power! In turn I have witnessed my students use the power of knowledge to impact those around them in a positive way.

My Project

Providing our students with enriching life experiences is our goal. Because...

Experiences come around often but the right ones, not too often.

The opportunity provided to our students through this trip, will not only give them the ability to feel, see and hear firsthand the joys of belonging to a work force, but also an early-on notion of how the world is full of endless opportunities and caring souls.

Our second grade team will be provided the opportunity to visit a children's Hospital in the area. This trip will expose our students to the work force experience. In conjunction with KAPOW and their volunteers, therapists from Nicholas Children's Hospital would have invested many hours in exposing and enriching our students with job skills and decision making. The work site visit is the culmination of this learning happening in the classroom for months.

Our students will in turn use practical work experience witnessed at our work site location to further understand teamwork and the value of a practical educational experience.
