My Students

Many of my students are from low-income families and receive free lunch. Our school is the only high school in our area, and this year 100% of the students will receive free breakfast and lunch for the school year. Sometimes, eating a healthy, well-balanced meal happens only in school for many of them. Being able to grow fruits, vegetables, and herbs for them to take home and share with their families is something we have been wanting to do in class for a long time. We also have livestock to take care of that we use as learning tools in the classroom. Taking the livestock section one step further and harvesting them for food will teach the students even more about self-sustainability.

Sharing the bounty they raise in class with their families will solidify the teachings and experiences they have in class.

They will be able to share with others how they worked and harvested what they grew and raised then turn around and share with their families what we ate.

My Project

Our raised beds need some white picket fences to go around them to keep our bunny rabbit out and also to make it look bee-utiful to all who go into the garden. Having these bee flowers in the raised beds will also help beautify everything with all kinds of colors everywhere. We are currently changing our fencing in our front garden to this white picket fence and it looks so pretty but we need a few more panels to finish up.

Colorful flowers and white picket fences are what every gardeners dreams are made of.

Having a bee-utiful raised bed garden will keep my students wanting to come back to learn more about planting, harvesting, and raising flowers for the bees and butterflies. And no one can resist stopping to smell the flowers. I know we can't!
