My Students

CMS is home to nearly 1,300 students from across the city. Nearly 200 students within the school population are in our band. Our students come from diverse backgrounds but come together because of music. Majority of our students are within 5 miles of the school but we also serve 350+ students from nearly 15 miles away. Nearly 30% of our student population is considered Title I and needs financial assistance to thrive in the Arts.

My Project

Percussion tends to be one of the more popular of instruments for beginners and our band is no exception. We have a cap of 12 percussionist due to our limited space so students are always using equipment daily. Some of the current sticks/mallets have been inherited since the mid-2000's and are falling apart even with some repairs. Our percussion students deserve to play with quality sticks/mallets to receive the best sound possible. Students can expect to practice with the correct sound in mind through the use of this DonorsChoose.org project and it is about time our percussionist get a "make over".
