My Students

Our elementary is a suburban school with a mixed demographic. Approximately 25% of students come from a low-income family. Many students live in apartments, in single parent homes. Two of the students have a parent in prison, and one has a deceased father. The average test scores for language arts are only 60%. Low-test score concerns have caused a big push to increase reading fluency and comprehension.

My school began teaching rotations in 6th Grade.

I teach language arts, and I want to introduce my students to the love of reading by using different genres of books! Using 6th grade level books, I make reading fun by having weekly Book Club meetings! We eat lunch together, I provide a treat, and we talk books! I love how much the students enjoy the Book Club and how excited they get about reading!

This year we have a hybrid schedule and the students only come to school two days per week. The students need access to books they can take home to read the books during the remote days. Your donation will help promote literacy in our school. Thank you for helping us!

My Project

These materials will be used to enhance the remote learning during Covid-19. Students need to be able to read at home, to prepare for in-class instruction. The remote reading will facilitate DBQ's, and whole and small group literature circles in the classroom on the in-person instructional days.

I am new to teaching rotations, and I do not have enough materials to provide for 75 6th Grade students.

I want to provide different genres of literature to enhance the comprehension of my students through diversified reading.

We will utilize these books to compare, contrast and discuss the plots in detail. I am in need of books in the genre of Mystery, Historical Fiction and Realistic Fiction. I am grateful for any help I can receive!
