This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Instruments are a wonderful way to teach music, but if you get a splinter... not so much fun.

I teach at an Elementary School in Illinois.

90% of the students receive free or reduced price lunch. I teach music to Pre-K through 6th grade, and the 7th and 8th grade students have the option of being in the extracurricular programs I offer.

My Project

In my teaching I love using tone bells. Tone bells look like a xylophone when you open the case, but each bar can be taken out individually. Students get to hold one note in their hands and strike it with a mallet. The instruments are over 20 years old and holding up very well, except for the mallets. Many of the mallets have broken and others have given students splinters when they are playing them. These new mallets will give the students motivation to use them again, right now they are very tentative when I pull these instruments out.

We also have had an old bass xylophone donated recently, but it did not come with mallets, so the bass mallets will let us use this new and exciting instrument in our arrangements.

You donation will touch all of my students. Over 700 students will be able to continue to learn and have sun with music!
