My Students

I teach at a model school that incorporates performing arts, visual arts, coding, computer science, and STEM (STEAM) within the curriculum. Our urban school receives federal funding for programs that provide free breakfast and lunch for every student, and title 1 services to economically disadvantaged boys and girls. We are a class which includes military families, gifted/talented students, ESL/ELL students, inclusion/special education students, and the tech savvy. My students are energetic and very busy within the classroom. Even with parental support, I would love to say that my students have everything that they need to be successful. But they don't. We are preparing students for college, the workforce, and the world beyond, so they can have a better life.

My Project

I have integrated computer science into our school curriculum over the last three years. I would like to take our experiences and activities to the next level by adding robotics. I am requesting 2 OSMO starter kits and 2 OSMO coding kits to use with our iPads to further their interest in coding and computer programming.

Computer Science and coding teaches critical thinking, practical skills and problem solving, while also preparing students to succeed in a workforce that is digitally increasingly .

With OSMO, coding is hands-on and fun. Students will snap physical blocks together to create sequences of commands and easily learn computer programming fundamentals. Along with the starter kits and coding kits, students will create algorithms using the manipulative blocks to bring their coding and computer programming experience to life in the classroom.

This is the next step in their discovery of computer programming and preparing for computer science courses at the next level.
