My Students

I teach 12 students in a high school special education classroom. My students are ages 15-20. I work with the same students for the entire school day. We work on all subject areas as well as vocational skills and life skills. I work with students who are on the autism spectrum, have emotional disorders, or have learning and intellectual disabilities.

The diversity in my classroom is what makes me excited to go to work every day.

I work with students of all different abilities and every student is unique. This diversity has allowed my students to learn from one another and it brings about new possibilities and ideas every day. My goal is to help them become more independent and work on getting a successful job after graduation.

My Project

I was recently lucky enough to be chosen to receive an OSMO and some starter games for my students. However, having only 1 OSMO severely limits the opportunity for my students to use it and to interact with one another. I would like to have an OSMO device and game pieces for all of the iPads that I currently have.

My students already love OSMO, and I want to be able to give them a better chance to explore all of its capabilities.

We have only been able to briefly take turns using the different OSMO games because there is only one for all 12 students to share. Expanding my OSMO inventory will allow me to group students to let them work on a focused skill based on their need.

Having more hands-on manipulatives for the Tangram app will allow students to work on shape recognition. Having more manipulatives for the words and numbers app will help my students with their reading and math skills. More OSMO kits will allow more collaboration between my students and let them have fun while practicing skills.
