My Students

My students are children with varying special needs. Their needs vary from other health impairment as specified by ADHD, ADD, PTSD; Speech and Language Impairment; Autism; Intellectual Disabilities and Learning impaired. I work with my students in small groups up to a max of 8 because they work better and receive more support in a smaller group.

Sometimes, I feel my students are misunderstood because of their behavior, academic and social inabilities but when they are with me they are very happy to be themselves, excited to learn and feel confident in accepting who they are.

In my classroom learning takes place in a fun an exciting way as describe by my students. They often leave saying that was much easier than I thought why can't you help other teachers to help me this way.

My Project

The students will use the OSMO to engage in coding, spelling, drawing, mathematics, art, and decoding in ELA. It taps into the varied learning styles by adding tactile exploration with technology. This taps in to all the senses for oral, aural, and kinesthetic learning. Students are mostly engaged with technology in the 21st century and this device will allow me to reach students who have that interest. Although many students have electronic devices at the moment some are having difficulty gaining access to WiFi at home. Some do not bring their devices to school and my school has given out all the devices we had. By having a device and the Osmo tools students will have another level access that is fun and academic. The device also will allow for collaboration for small group instruction when we return fully to the school building and can work together in the future.
