Everyone has a place in this life, but finding it can be difficult. Last trimester, “Alli” found her passion in woodshop. On a 1 hour project, Joe spent 8. She couldn’t stop and I didn’t get in her way. By the time the class ended, Alli had made a cutting board, a bird house with her initial and was looking for a new challenge.
Alli might be exceptional but there are many junior high students who relish the opportunity to use their hands as well as their brains; to make a bowl appear where there was once a block of wood or to discover they have potential when they thought they had none.
My Project
This machine will allow students to sand curves and holes with ease and speed. I continue to look for projects that the kids can do that will increase what their shop experience will be. I see an oscillating sander and a needed component to our shop.
With the sander, the kids will be able to finish projects to a higher level and finish then they have been able to do in the past.
I love woodworking and am trying to get Junior high students excited about something else besides what's on their phones or on their computers. Hopefully giving them a new hobby for life!
