My Students

My students are bright eyed and ready to please! Over 90% of my students come to school with a primary language other than English. They are from immigrant families who receive free and reduced lunch status. Parents want them to do well in school but many struggle because they are learning to speak English or have other special learning needs. In spite of this, the children are happy to be in school and try their best.

Because of this, I want to do my best for them so that each one of them succeeds in school.

My work is not done until each child makes good progress and thrives in all subject areas throughout the school year.

My Project

I would like my students to practice the art of origami, or Japanese paper folding, to create different objects (such as fish, dogs, cats, clothes, and flowers). By creating different art forms out of these various papers, students will also be reinforcing and learning math. Geometric shapes (triangles, squares, etc), fractions (1/2, 1/3, 1/4 etc), as well as measurement (length, width, height) will be taught right alongside of art! This project will make teaching and learning math concepts fun and easy!

In addition, this project will be highly beneficial to those students who have a difficult time following directions.

Origami requires step by step instructions in order to create each art form, and students must follow each step in order to be successful. Because students want to create the final art form, they will be motivated to focus their attention, listen, and follow directions!
