This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are wonderful first graders who are quickly learning the merits of organization. Whether it is the ease of finding a good book, or the speed of finding a sharp pencil, my students know that being organized helps them be better learners.

My students are eager six and seven year olds from a low-income suburb of DC.

They live a few minutes from the University of Maryland, but most do not know anyone who has ever been to college besides the adults at our school. Our school community is largely Latino-Hispanic and all of our students are hard workers who do their best work despite their home and family situations.

My Project

The dollar store was a great place to start my classroom's collection of organizational materials, but the bins and caddies have reached their end and are starting to fall apart. New book bins would make our library a colorful and easy place to to find books. Level labels would stay firmly on these plastic bins and they would not fall apart like our current bins. Desk caddies would allow my students to organize all of their materials (glue, pencils, crayons) and repeat reading books on their desk, easily within reach. This will help our classroom become and efficient and enjoyable place in which to work!

Organizational skills are important to have at all ages and I hope my students will learn these important skills in first grade!

I know that book bins and desk caddies will make our classroom a better place to work and play!
