Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I will be looping with my current 4th-grade students into their journey of last year in elementary school as 5th graders. This group of students has been very special as they have navigated many hardships in their experiences living through a pandemic, experiencing gun violence, and social inequities. Despite having navigated these challenges, my class continues to show up every day with remarkable resilience and a thirst for knowledge. As their literacy teacher next year, I wish to provide a classroom that makes them feel safe and excited and grow their love for diverse literature.

First and foremost, having a wide variety of materials in the library fosters a love for reading among students.

Some of the materials also create a library where students can tune out the world and develop a love for reading in an inviting space. Books have the incredible power to transport young minds to new worlds, spark imagination, and ignite a passion for learning. They also deserve to have their books well taken care of and organized to ensure they can find what they need and meet their needs such as the requested organizing bins and rugs.

As their literacy teacher, investing in additional materials for our library is essential for our students holistic development and academic success. By enriching our library with diverse books, reference materials, online resources, and creative tools, we can cultivate a love for reading, enhance research skills, promote inclusivity, and provide a nurturing environment that sparks curiosity and fosters growth. I urge you to consider the importance of this matter and support our mission to empower our students with the resources they need.
