I teach in a school with a large number of students who come from poverty. These children present unique challenges in the classroom. Many students are not provided with the enrichment and activities to support academic success. Upon arriving to school, many of these students lack the basic skills necessary to succeed.
Because students come to school lacking basic skills, they struggle to achieve in the classroom.
By the time students reach first grade, many are still reading at a Pre-Kindergarten or Kindergarten level. Our school places a huge emphasis on guided reading, differentiation, and small group instruction. By using these teaching techniques, I have been able to watch students improve their reading by 2 grade levels, or more, while in my classroom.
An organized classroom library is an invited place for students to want to read and learn. The supplies in this project will help create an organized library. I will use the book cart to organize books by theme and the leveled library to give students books at their perfect instructional level.
When a library is well organized and inviting, students are more likely to choose reading as an activity.
Currently, my classroom library is in need of some serious sprucing up! Help me encourage my students to read by providing me with the storage and supplies needed to create an organized and welcoming environment!
