Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Kindergarten children love learning new things. They must learn many routines in school. We have arrival procedures, dismissal procedures, transitioning to activities procedures as well routines within each subject area.

I have 21 kindergarten students in my class.

The school serves a low socioeconomic community. For most, this is my students' first time in school. They are excited to be there and eager to learn. They are learning new systems and structures. Not only are they learning academics but they are learning the skills needed to be good citizens. They are young but can start now!

My Project

This is the perfect time to introduce life long habits as students and citizens. One of the school tenets is organization. This project would help my students develop the lifetime habit of organization. It would be so great if they could have some place to keep their things, most importantly, homework and notices. Having a sturdy structure for students to use would increase their learning time. They would not have to wait for notices and assignments to be handed out individually. They could get their own things in a timely fashion. This would increase their independence. Independence is a vital skill for a kindergarten student to develop in order to be successful. Very often, their other teachers will leave work for them to do at home or at a later time, as there is no storage, they have to wait for me to return from a preparatory period to put their work away. A lot of instructional time is lost throughout the day due to collecting and re-distributing papers to be sent home.

If students had this mail storage system, they would become more independent.

They would learn how to organize themselves. They would have a system for keeping their things in order and would have more time for learning. Please help my students develop this crucial life long skill of organization.
