My Project

I teach students with autism who have special learning needs in a self-contained classroom within an elementary school. There are 2 paraprofessional teaching assistants and a special education teacher. Together we share a large library of curricula needed to meet each student's unique learning needs. The students and staff will both benefit from shelving and carts to better organize our many levels of learning materials, manipulatives, visuals, and resources.

Better organization will allow us to focus more on instruction rather than gathering and sorting materials between individualized lessons.

Carts will help us to move our books around the room to minimize disruption during learning and keep materials close by. Open shelving allows us to see everything we have and keep it organized.

Additionally, students will benefit from the Legos and new sensory bins for much-needed sensory breaks in our calm-down corner and busy boards to practice tying knots and zippering to meet their occupational therapy goals. Lastly, to support occupational therapy needs and provide more responsive feedback, students will receive a wireless mouse to use while on their laptops.
