Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The 250 students in our AVID program are aiming to be the first in their families to attend college. They have 6-7 classes per week, and need to keep their materials organized. Our program receives less than a dollar per student, and our students come from working class or impoverished financial backgrounds so any school supplies our program can offer make a difference. Our AVID students are resilient, kind, bright, and joyous. They care deeply about our community, from holding doors for folks with their hands full, to seeking out careers that allow them to positively impact the neighborhood where they've grown up.

Give my students a chance to organize their work, thoughts, and futures.

Give them the simple tool of folders for each class. This is step ONE in their process of becoming college-ready students. With the tools for organization, they can focus on each class clearly. We also have a block schedule, so folders allow our students to switch out folders every day for the correct day's classes and avoid the overwhelm of having everything with them.
