Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I work in a Title 1 elementary school and in Brighton, Colorado. My students are AMAZING! No matter their background or experience, they are hard workers, curious to learn, and want to succeed. I would like to add some organizational elements to my classroom that would allow the students to learn how to be leaders in the classroom and run a more student led daily experience.

There are several things the classroom is in need of to become more organized in a way that will allow students to have ownership of their learning.

The first item is plastic shoebox size tubs. Each student would keep their individual supplies in a tub in a central location in the room to allow easy access to whatever they need for specific lessons and decrease clutter in their desks. Another item that will help is a set of storage boxes for our daily math learning games. We have seven math units with 5-6 daily games for each unit. Being able to organize by game and by unit would allow students to be responsible to manage the games each day. In addition, there are several other items to label organization through the classroom so students are clear where everything is.

I believe giving students the tools, lessons, and ultimately the skills to be organized owners of their success is a life skill.
