My Students

This year my students were introduced to daily journaling. For 5 minutes every day we wrote on topics such as "change," "friends," and "college." My students enjoyed this bell ringer, but ran into trouble when they could not find their journal.

My students attend high school in the Arkansas Delta.

We're a Title 1 school and 100% of our students receive free lunch. Free breakfast is also available to them daily. We are one of the larger public schools in the area, and like so many others we are struggling to make gains in our test scores. As a literacy teacher, I encounter students with reading levels ranging from pre-k to college; our writing abilities are similar.

My Project

Every day this year my students have entered my classroom and journaled. It's a task that many students love and view as a time to express themselves (while secretly improving their writing skills!). However, there have been many times I have walked into my classroom to see students frantically sifting through the pile of journals. Though separated by class period, the journals always find a way of moving between tubs.

I am asking for your donation because I'd love an easy solution to this problem: personal boxes.

Each student would receive a box with his or her name on it, and enough space within that box to store a journal, grammar workbook, and any in-progress work for our class. Please help my students obtain a space of their own so they may spend their time increasing their literacy skills, rather than searching for supplies! Thank you!
