This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a diverse, first grade, integrated, collaborative teaching (ICT) class, with a combined mixture of general and special education students at a large, high-needs, Title I school in the north Bronx. Although the majority of students come from low-income homes or from homes with limited parental school-involvement, they are enthusiastic and truly come to school everyday, ready to learn. These children see school as a consistent part of their daily lives and strive daily to make me proud.

My class of first graders are some of the happiest children I have ever had the pleasure of working with.

Not only do several of them struggle with unstable home lives, but many cope with various disabilities such as ADHD, autism, and speech and language impairments. These kids inspire me to provide the best education I can for them.

My Project

As this unprecedented school year winds down to a close, it’s time to start planning how to make next year go more smoothly and maximize the students’ potential for success during in-person learning. Unfortunately, most of my students’ families are not in a financial position to purchase headphones for their children; so I’d like to purchase high quality headphones for each student to use in school when working on their devices to minimize distraction and promote focus and engagement. These headphones are great because they are designed for kids and can withstand constant use. Since these headphones will be used in school, we need a way to organize them neatly and accessible for kids to retrieve as needed; therefore, the shoe organizer is a great solution.

One issue that occurred quite often this past year was multiple children bringing in devices that were not fully charged.

To resolve this issue, I’d like to provide a charging station in the classroom so multiple children can charge their devices throughout the day. This will tremendously help with keeping all students organized and on top of their work.
